It is a peaceful place to sit with a morning coffee, enjoy a good book or simply listen to the birds. The garden changes continually through the seasons and is filled with mature planting, architectural foliage and personal details.
The Dickens Room also enjoys lovely views across the garden from its charming Juliette balcony.

The garden sits immediately behind Havisham House, creating a private, leafy setting in the centre of Woburn.
Looking back towards the house reveals the Juliette balcony of the Dickens Room and shows how naturally the garden forms part of the home.

Oversized gunnera leaves, layered foliage and plants in generous pots give the garden its lush and individual atmosphere.
Its character comes not from formality, but from texture, scale and the pleasure of discovering something different around every corner.
Perfectly balanced.
An old set of scales, filled with river stones and threaded with ivy, has found a new purpose among the garden’s collected curiosities.
Useful once, decorative now—and unmistakably Havisham House.
Not everything here grows.
Two long-legged birds keep watch among the foliage—one of many playful objects that sit naturally alongside the planting.
They reflect the same mix found throughout Havisham House: old and new, elegant and eccentric, always personal.
Even the wellies are growing.
White geraniums have found an unexpected home in a pair of old boots—one of the small, playful discoveries tucked among the planting.
The garden is full of these personal touches: useful things reimagined, given new life and allowed to raise a smile.

When guests leave Havisham House, I give them a packet of forget-me-not seeds to plant at home—a small and personal reminder of their stay.
